Surrey League Cross Country
The Men’s Cross-Country Surrey League was founded in 1962 with the ladies joining the Surrey League in 1979 and has been going strong ever since. There are four cross country races a year generally held in October, November, January and February. These races are open to the 43 running clubs who are affiliated to the league. In addition to the adults both the men’s and ladies’ divisions also host races for the juniors.
Men’s Divisions
The men’s competition comprises of four divisions. Divisions 1, 2 and 3 all have nine clubs, with Division 4 made up of twelve clubs. There is promotion on an annual basis of the top 2 clubs from Divisions 2, 3 and 4 and relegation of the bottom 2 clubs from Divisions 1, 2 and 3. League standings are based on the club’s A Team comprising of 10 runners. In addition, there is a B Team competition also made up of teams of 10 runners. Each club can field as many runners as they wish to. The four races are approximately 8KM long.
Junior Boys. Currently sixteen clubs also field teams in the Junior races with the Under 17’s running 4KM and the Under 13’s 2.9KM approximately. There are four runners to score in these races and like the seniors each competing club are welcome to field as many runners as they wis
Women’s Divisions
The women’s competition comprises of two divisions – Division 1 has fifteen clubs and Division 2 is made up of twenty-five clubs. At the end of each season the top three clubs from Division 2 are promoted to Division 1 and the bottom three in Division 1 are relegated to Division 2. League standings are based on the club’s A Team comprising of 5 runners. In addition, there is a B Team competition also made up of teams of 5 runners. Each club can field as many runners as they wish to. The first two races are approximately 6KM and the third and fourth race are 8KM long.
Junior Girls. Currently sixteen clubs also field teams in the Junior girls’ races with the Under 17’s running 4.5KM and the Under 13’s 3.2KM approximately. There are four runners to score in these two races. In addition, there is a B team competition also comprising four runners. Like the seniors each competing club are welcome to field as many runners as they wish.
