THE COURSE
Please see the attached course map.
Wimbledon Common’s established tracks are firm underfoot but expect the trails within the woods to be quite muddy. There could also be tree roots. Off-road shoes are suitable. Spiked shoes could be worn, but long spike pins are not recommended as some of the paths are compacted dirt with small stones.
For the Seniors the distance is approximately 8km (5 miles), comprising one short and one longer lap of a circuit heading to the Windmill and then dropping into the woods.
For those who ran in this fixture in October 2024, note that the course has slightly changed on the long loop in the woods, so please look out for the marshals.
Wimbledon Common is an open space shared with horse-riders, dog walkers and family groups The marshals will alert you to any potential hazards, but please be aware and considerate to other users.
For the safety of all, runners are reminded that they must not wear any form of headphones during the race and risk disqualification if they do so.
GETTING THERE
As with most London venues, it is best to use public transport if possible.
The nearest train/tram station is Wimbledon, about 1.2 miles from the start.
The number 93 bus (which runs between Putney Bridge and North Cheam) can be picked up opposite the station and stops at Wimbledon War Memorial, a short walk along The Causeway to the Start.
Please do not use the Windmill carpark as it is very congested on a Saturday and you are unlikely to find a place. Parking is free along The Causeway, but again this road tends to get very full, so public transport is encouraged.
FACILITIES
There will be four temporary toilets situated near the start and there are also toilets at the Windmill Tearooms.
FIRST AID
Two qualified medics will be in attendance, one vehicle-based at the start/finish, and the other mobile and able to reach any casualties on the course.
The nearest hospitals with A&E facilities are:
St George’s Hospital, Blackshaw Road, Tooting SW17 0QT
Kingston Hospital, Galsworthy Road, Kingston upon Thames KT2 7QB
ADDITIONAL HELP
Offers of extra marshals are always appreciated, so if your club can help, please contact info@herculeswimbledonac.org.uk in advance of the fixture.
