1. START TIMES (note back to normal times)
Young athletes - 2:30 p.m.
Men's race - 3 p.m.
2. LOCATION OF RACE HQ AND TRAVEL
Race HQ is the SLH clubhouse, 194a Brighton Road, Coulsdon, CR5 2NF. Changing facilities and toilets are available at the club, as well as hopefully drinks afterwards. The SLH clubhouse should be open from 1:30 p.m.
Race start/finish is on Farthing Downs, just off Downs Road, about 1 km from the SLH clubhouse, as in previous years. Allow 10 minutes' walk.
Cars:
There are car parks in Coulsdon (e.g. Lion Green Road) near to the clubhouse. Please take note of on-street parking restrictions (as always!).
THERE IS NO PARKING ON THE DOWNS, OTHER THAN AT THE DESIGNATED CAR-PARK AT THE TOP OF DITCHES LANE. This is a key part of our licence terms and conditions. Since the car-park is as far beyond the start as the clubhouse is the town side, you are better off parking in Coulsdon.
Walking, public transport or cycling:
Coulsdon South or Coulsdon Town railway stations are close to the clubhouse. Coulsdon South is closer for those going straight to the race start.
Toilets are available at the clubhouse.
3. COURSE MAP AND CONDITIONS
The young athletes course will be a single 2.5 mile loop of our usual Surrey League course. The men's course will be two laps.
The course terrain is chalky grassland and paths. There is a descent through the woods on a stony path. The path at the bottom of the hill in Happy Valley can get a little muddy after rain. Footwear is obviously the athletes choice, but short spikes, studs or trail shoes would be best suited.
This is City of London common land. We don't have rights over other park users, including dog walkers, horse riders etc. - please ask your runners to respect them. Please also watch out for tree roots and any other hazards. There are sometimes cows grazing on the Downs.
4. NUMBERS, DECLARATIONS AND RESULTS
For the young athletes races PAPER DECLARATIONS are required.
For senior athletes, we welcome online declarations (the less names we have to re-key, the faster the results are out), but we will happily accept paper. For new runners, please give us a date of birth if possible.
A reminder on the second-claim rule:
Two second claimers (from their pre-season declared 10) are allowed per club and these can be declared as normal. Other non-scorers and guests should be marked “n/s” on the declaration sheets and in results. Please ensure Rules 10 & 11 are obeyed which stipulates that Non Scorers wear an “X” on their backs.
In case anyone does not have them, I attach copies of the declaration sheets in both PDF and Word for seniors and for young athletes
We hope you enjoy the visit to Farthing Downs. Any questions, please get back to me.
Regards,
Paul
